July 21, 2013
The day started off gloomy, just as predicted. I had Polo match in Santa Barbara on my schedule, but canceled it due to weather. I decided to go to brunch with a friend. I discovered this area, a few years ago while driving around. It's called the "Old Place". It's been here for over 100 years and it's only open on the weekends. It was once the local post office, then it became a general store. I guess that would be like a Target today.
They have the ultimate blue corn pancakes ever.
You can sit outside if they have wait.
Next door is a winery. In the last few years more tasting rooms have
been opening up in the area, and it's nice to have some local.
This one is called Cornell Wines.
Here's a few pictures of the tasting room.
Along with some of the wines they sell.
I found the cutest book. I had to pick it up and look at it.
Naturally they had a store dog that was super friendly with everyone,
and not camera shy.
Next door to the tasting room is a place called
Charme D'Antan. It's closed on Sundays, but a wonderful place
for authentic French imports.
Beautiful entrance. As you can see, the gates are closed.
You can get an idea of what they sell by the photos. It's a beautiful
place to walk around and get inspired.
As we head back to the car I spot her.
I love how animals are so welcome here. The dogs are relaxed,
and the people are too. Talk about rustic....
Somehow, it works in this setting. From behind the building
you can see the details. It feels like a long way from home, yet it's only
about 4 miles into the canyon.
Isn't it interesting?
Did I mention that wild peacocks roam around here? Sometimes you can
see about 10 of them. I saw a female with two chicks and tried to get a
picture. She moved to fast and blended in with the ground. I caught him walking around.
Have a great week!
